Manufacturing and Quality
Where are ROOT products made?
According to ROOT, all ROOT products are made in the USA in partnership with a US-based biotechnology manufacturer. ROOT's page names this partner as Strata and shows the facility's certificates under the heading “Strata Manufacturing”. ROOT states that its partner's facilities are FDA-registered and work to GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) guidelines.
A quick note: FDA registration means a manufacturing facility is registered with the US Food and Drug Administration. It does not mean the products are approved by the FDA.
How production works
The process ROOT describes rests on a few steps:
- Ingredient testing: according to ROOT, every ingredient is tested thoroughly before and after formulation to confirm its quality and cleanliness.
- Different formats: the manufacturing partner specialises in developing and producing supplements as capsules, powders, liquids and other formats.
- Oversight: ROOT says that working with a manufacturer in the USA lets it keep a close eye on everything from sourcing to the finished product.
- No unnecessary additives: ROOT says it aims to avoid unnecessary additives. You'll find exactly what each product contains in the Ingredients tab on its product page.
Certificates and logos
ROOT's manufacturing page shows the logos below. They relate to the manufacturing facility and do not mean every product holds every certificate. We list product-specific certificates in the “Certificates” tab of each product.
LogoWhat it means
GMP
Good Manufacturing Practice: production follows documented quality and hygiene rules.
GMP Certified – NSF/ANSI 455-2 Supplements
Certification against NSF/ANSI 455-2, the standard that sets out GMP requirements for dietary supplement manufacturing. ROOT's page does not name the certifying body separately.
BSCG
Banned Substances Control Group: an independent organisation that tests products and ingredients. ROOT shows product-specific BSCG certificates on its product pages.
Etimad Halal
Etimad's halal certification logo.
Pareve
A kosher “pareve” logo (contains neither dairy nor meat); ROOT's page does not name the issuing body.
OTC
A logo shown on ROOT's page; ROOT does not explain its scope.
We have not independently verified the current status of these certificates. If you have a question about one of them, write to us and we'll try to get confirmation from ROOT.
Scientific advisory partner: ISNS
ROOT says it works with the International Science Nutrition Society (ISNS) as its scientific advisory partner. As ROOT describes it, ISNS is an organisation that supports research, education and innovation in nutrition, environmental health and wellness. Health professionals, researchers, students and anyone with an interest in the field can join (sciencenutritionsociety.com).
